Names with a Purpose - The Mediocre Mindset
When I was naming each of my children, I wanted a part of their name to have a meaning. I wanted someone from our families incorporated in their countenance. Both of my children have middle names from one of their grandparents. I think it helps tie them to their heritage and honor those that lived before them. As I was naming this website, I thought about what my vision was as a whole. How I wanted to tie my site's name to my visitors. When people visit my website, what do I hope they feel and achieve. My goal is that as a reader here, you feel that you are enough. Whatever you have to offer, it is good enough. Whatever you are going through, it measures up. Whatever your talents are, they are impressive.
The name Medi Mindset is short for Mediocre Mindset. I want to point out first and foremost, that I do not take the word mediocre with a negative connotation. Mediocre is often times used as a negative descriptive detail of how someone did not quite measure up. They were okay, but they weren't quite good enough. I have often described myself as being a Master of Mediocracy. I have really mastered the art of being okay at a lot of things. I am really good at being mediocre. It is what I excel at. I don't have any one particular part of my life that I excel above all others. I am not the best runner, the best cook, or as you can see- the best writer. But I am pretty mediocre at all of those things.
For many, being called mediocre is not a term of endearment. In fact, many would take it as an insult for not measuring up to a better or higher standard. In fact, google mediocre mindset and the results are less than favorable. The websites and self-help articles that appear are telling you how to get OUT of this mindset. But I will tell you, I have come to embrace and excel in being just okay at a lot of things. My house is the perfect amount of a lot of different styles. It is not totally cohesive which style it is, but its very livable. My family is usually, mostly put together - but not always. I make homecooked meals a few times a week and then rely on less than mediocre fast food to feed my family during busy days.
Scrolling social media can give us all a false sense of a perfectionism of other people's lives. And maybe not always perfectionism, but just a better looking pie that you could make, or a more put together bedroom than you have, or a fuller vacation calendar than you are able to afford. The wonderful, damaging, keep us together, and break us apart world of social media can give us the false sense that we aren't good enough at anything.
The Mediocre Mindset is a place where you can see less than perfect pictures. Pictures that I may have tried to edit, but I am just mediocre in the skill. Pictures that may make you cringe as they are far from social media worthy. You'll see floors that are 15 years old, scratched and pretending to be clean. I'll share tips and advice that you may already know. You know, mediocre living. I want you to fit in. You may have an area where you excel and stand out, and that is amazing!! I applaud you. But maybe you don't, and I want you to know that is okay. Being just okay at things, is OKAY!
Welcome to the Mediocre Mindset. A place where living a life in which you are just sliding by is awesome. A place where we celebrate the ordinary and embrace the middle grounders.
I am happy to have you!
